Unique Gift Shops - Long Island - Laffey Real Estate

As the holiday season approaches, it's a good idea to do more of your shopping at small and local businesses. These businesses are the backbone of our local economies, owned and operated by members of our own communities. Small Business Saturday, which is coming up on November 26, is the perfect opportunity to shop local. Here are some of the local stores our real estate agents recommend visiting on the occasion.

  • Hitch: 37 E. Main St., Babylon, NY 11702
    Hitch
is a gift shop that sells locally made crafts and goods. They opened in 2016, originally selling items out of an old camper, and moved to their current location in 2019. Inside, you'll find everything from stickers, to handmade cards, to personalized mugs. Holiday ornaments and dish towels are other nice finds.

Hitch is close to many great Babylon homes for sale. By shopping here, you're not only supporting the owners of Hitch but also the local artisans.

  • Willy Nilly Trading Company: 153 W. Main St., Bay Shore, NY 11706
    Willy Nilly Trading Company
is a lovely place to shop for accessories, home decor, and jewelry. They carry some well-known brands like Vera Bradley, but they also source goods from local artisans and small producers.

Willy Nilly has something for the whole family. Find knit mittens for your kids and fashion earrings for your grandmother! They have lots of decor to make your home sparkle for the holidays too. Plus, Central Islip homes for sale are minutes away.

  • Willis Hobbies: 300 Willis Ave., Mineola, NY 11501
If you have a hobbyist in your life, then Willis Hobbies is the place to do your shopping. This local store has been serving Long Island since 1949. They carry model train sets, model cars and boats, drones, radios, and die-cast cars. Customers are particularly impressed with their selection of model helicopters and related accessories.

Willis Hobbies is conveniently located near many Mineola homes for sale. You could spend an afternoon shopping for hobby items and looking at new houses.

  • Land of Oohs and Oz: 155 Main St. Ste. A, Farmingdale, NY 11735
Land of Oohs and Oz is the perfect place to shop for all the youngsters on your list. This local store sells toys and collectibles of all types. You'll find  Mattel Masters of the Universe figurines, DC Multiverse characters, and more.

Some of the items at Land of Oohs and Oz are vintage, and others are modern. It's hard not to be drawn in by the nostalgia of the place. Just make sure you also set aside some time to look at Farmingdale homes for sale nearby.

  • The Dog-Eared Bard's Book Shop - 250 Larkfield Rd., East Northport, NY 11731
Looking for a gift for someone who appreciates the classics? The Dog-Eared Bard's Book Shop just celebrated its one-year anniversary of selling used, antiquarian, and independent books. In addition to selling hard-to-find titles, the shop hosts poetry readings and other literary events.

The shop is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Be sure to stop by these East Northport homes for sale after you've found books for gift-giving.

Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to do some holiday shopping and familiarize yourself with more small businesses on Long Island. Contact us if you're new to Long Island and still looking for a place to call home. We'd love to help you on your home-buying journey.
